#HumainDemain Me and my prostheses

Try yourself the scientific progress
in matter of exoskeletons and prostheses

[p]In February 2018, the Quai des Savoirs, in partnership with the Natural History Museum of Toulouse and the Toulouse urban community, launches the exhibition #HumainDemain. This exhibition introduces four experiments of manipulation/discovery, including an immersive experience created by 2makesense:

Three large families of ready-to-wear items

2makesense has developed and implemented three large families of prostheses that the visitor can select and wear in real time.

Exoskeletons

Exoskeleton research focuses on many areas of application. The experiment thus includes 3 exoskeletons (a military, running or motricity exoskeleton) which can be selected by the visitor, attach to his body and follow each of his movements.

Body prostheses

The body prosthesis goes beyond the replacement of a missing limb. It can be presented as a motorized element (myoelectric), as an intelligent and autonomous system or even as a real fashion object. It allows to recover senses, it can also multiply capacities or apply to very specific fields of activity (sport, work, etc). Visitors discover with astonishment their substituted members in real time.

Internal prostheses

Simulation of X-ray view! Visitors discover the components of their bodies, embellished with prostheses such as a femur, a knee, a vertebral joint, or an artificial eye.

Innovative processes

Beyond the content itself, the experience involves many innovative approaches.

01 The ability to hide a visitor's members in real time

The device manages to clearly detect the limbs of visitors, to decide which ones should be preserved or erased. So in real time, the application of the prostheses intrigue by its realism and allows a total immersion through an increased mirror!

02 An individual experience to live with others

The experience clearly identifies the participant, who can interact and remain free of his movements.

03 Morphological adaptation and movement tracking

Tracking is used intelligently, in order to put prostheses in motion and adapt them to various morphological contexts. Thus the experience opens to the greatest number of people, regardless of their age, stoutness, tall, or posture.

04 Real-time adaptation of components in space

Each worn item is applied in real time and in space. The visitor is thus totally free of his movements. Each gaming session offers unique entertainment.

05 A dedicated system for scenographic design

The entire experience has been conceived for its perfect integration into space, in its appearance and technological choices. The visual universe is a perfect link with the exhibition, but also its ability to execute within the flow of visitors. The experience has been designed to be able to keep the focus with the punctual passage, in front of or behind the current player.

06 Intuitive and accessible gesture manipulation

The reliability is increased by the absence of interaction with the screen.

The visitor stays at a distance, manipulates the device and navigates by gestural tracking. The experience is instinctive and never disconnects the visitor from it.

07 Autonomy for visitors

The device detects entry and exit of visitors, either inviting them to enter the game or re-initiating sessions for new players.

08 Other fundamental technologies for exploitation

The experience is adapted to the functional needs of exploitation, including journalization of power-on / off.

The interactive system is also used to provide increased reliability, to take care of continuous operation: system process listeners survey stability and automatically manage the state of the experience if an exceptional event occurs.

Accessibility is also implemented for the teams in charge of the animation of the exhibition. There is no needs to open the structure to access to hardware and perform quick actions. Operators are equipped with intuitive solutions (directly controlled from their cellphones), to take control of the device, while remaining next to the public.
